Dr. Susan Yoshihara gave a book lecture on Population Decline and the Remaking of Great Power Politics at the Institute of World Politics in April.
She stressed the importance of not squandering America’s current demographic advantage:
The most significant changes may not be technological but normative. And that’s why leaders are apt to miss them. The strategic pessimism now gripping America’s allies and competitors as a result of their demographic demise is already changing the strategic landscape. […] And this presents Americans with an extraordinary opportunity. Seizing the demographic advantage not only means restoring fiscal discipline at home and strategic leadership abroad, but also promoting the one thing that gave us the advantage–strong and stable American families.
